Trails
There is one main trail to summit Mount Roberts, however hikers can choose to take a longer route up other trails, or summiting Mount Shaw in a larger loop.
Mount Roberts Trail – (5 Miles Round Trip)
This trail is very well marked and traveled, making it easy to follow in most conditions. It features several fantastic view points of the Ossipee Range, and Lake Winnipesaukee during the ascent. With a gradual gain nearly all the way to the summit, this trail is relatively easy.
The first view point is less than a mile into the hike with other viewpoints around 1.5 miles into the hike. The summit features 180 degree views of the Southern White Mountains. Views of Mount Chocorua, Mount Passaconaway, Mount Whiteface, and many more 4,000 footers are fantastic.
High Ridge Trail
The high ridge trail connects the summits of Mount Shaw and Roberts. There are various paths to reach the High Ridge Trail, each changing the distance to get to the summit of Mount Roberts. Refer to the Castle’s trail map to determine your route.
Winter Hiking
Mount Roberts is a fantastic winter hike. This is a great starter hike for those looking to get into winter hiking. It features only gradual gains, so you can often get away with no microspikes or traction (even though you should always bring them). This isn’t as well traveled as other winter hikes, but the trail tends to stay packed due to enough hikers. Most of the time you will not need snowshoes due to this, but in times of lots of snow, snowshoes may be very beneficial.
Directions & Parking
There is ample parking at Castle in the Clouds. The grounds can get very busy during the summer. Winter months should have little to no issue with parking at any time.
